Are there any abdominal excercises that should be avoided if you have a lap band?

its the port thats the main problem.  I almost always have some soreness after an ab workout around my port.  I stay away from full situps, but I do a lot of captains chair, planks, crunches, no problem, but like I said, the port does get mad at me sometimes.

I think they do say to avoid straining or doing any ab work the first few months while the port area heals. Check with your doctor.

I've been banded for over 3 years and it doesn't bother me. However, I do a lot of core work through yoga. It seems to not put as much stress on that one area. I'm not a big fan of sit ups. I just don't think I do them well for a good result so I get in core work other ways. I've never been told there is a "no, no" work out for banded people. You just have to follow your doctor's order while you're healing.

I do ab work with no problem. I am a year out and have been doing ab work since about 3 months out.
