just starting out
Your body will tell you. Start out 10 minutes at a time if you can walk that long. If not start with 5 minutes and walk again in an hour or so. Keep increasing your time until you are able to walk 30-45 minutes. The big thing is don't push yourself but don't give up either.
I just had the same kind of thoughts. I am almost 3 yrs out and have realy lapsed in exercising for the past 6 months. I am paying for it now. I want to run! I started out on the treadmill (kind of cold here for running, to me anyways.) I haven't been walking or running on a regular basis, but I just spent more time on treadmill and spent half of that jogging. (not saying how long yet) but I plan on building it every day....
Good luck Melissa.

welcome and good luck. just start out slow and incease as you start to feel better/stronger/more confident. i suggest to everybody just starting out to post often in the daily workout threads, lots of accountability, motivation, and inspiration can be found there.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Last night I went for an amazing work out with a good friend. My goal of walking was to just get my heart rate up and keep it up for 15 min and then 45 minutes later we realized how long of a good pace we had been keeping :-) Post walking we played on the Wii fit which was a ton of fun. I was pretty worn out and when I hit the bed, I slept. This morning I did not want to wake up at all. I kept hitting snooze, but was reminded that I had to get up (because of work) but man my tummy was hungry.
Parts of me feel like they were run over by a mini-bus (not as bad as surgery) but my tummy ... yep those abs are getting a core work out just being used, but the hula hoop exercise on the Wii is no joke! I know it will be worth it in the end, and I have to keep going. Tonight we are going walking again, maybe no Wii, but I know if I take a day off and not do something the momentum will stop.
Who ever thought that a good walk would make you sore and tired? I sure didn't. Being nice to my body today as I work through the day.
