Introducing.... ME, the new kid on the block
I actually have just found this Forum and boy am I glad I did. You guys seem so encouraging and that is what I need. I just started SERIOUSLY exercising (well, serious for me) this past week. I've been going to the gym and walking/running on the C25K plan. And you know how hard that is for a BIG girl! But I'm doing it! Three days a week at the gym (it's a church gym and only open in the evening 3 times/week) working on the treadmill, eliptical, and cross-trainer for a total of 50 to 60 minutes, then weights for toning.
I've not been able to get in anything else workout wise on the other days other than using my resistance bands. It seems like once I get home to the kids and hubs, I'm done with ME time. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Getting gym time and family time balance is hard....very hard.
Ideas: indoor bike trainer, your resistance bands can be done while at home, I finally broke down and joined a 24 hour gym, so i can work out before the family gets up, look for used equip on craigslist (that stuff will start showing up this time of year as people give up on their new years resolutions, unlike us!)
You can do it. Check out my website www.roytyson.com

Roy is right, it is hard to balance gym time and family time. I too do most of my workout before anyone gets up (I was up at 4:30 this am and at the gym at 5:30. I do have the luxury that my wife gets them off to school and such. I believe that this is one area where you have to be a little selfish. Dropping the weight isn't exactly easy and keeping it off is going to be even harder especially without a plan in place. My wife and myself had a come to jesus meeting when I began exercise seriously and I explained to her how good I feel now compared to 6 months ago and I refuse to go back there. I pointed out how much happier I am and that WE ACTUALLY DO STUFF AS A FAMILY! after this she has eased up and even encourages and supports me.

welcome! i echo what roy said... work/life/exercise balance is tough, you do what you can and try to make it work. a lot of us get up really early to get a workout in. some go after work or late at night. best of luck and keep posting on the board, lots of inspiration to be found here.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Call me lazy (oh, and I AM lazy), but 3X week is not a bad start! You don't want to overwhelm yourself with a 6 day/week regiment that you can't maintain, so do this for now, and then see when/where/what you might want to add. Is there some activity you could do as a family? or as a "special" activity with one kid? A dance exercise video? some hand weights at home two mornings/week?
Take your time, it's a journey, not a race!
