Back from House of the Mouse Finished 1/2 Marathon
We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And at Mile 11 , I turned to hubby and said, "This was fun! Lets do this again next year!" Mind you, he was having problems (cramps in shins and back of calfs on both legs), but self contributing problems as he didnt train for last 2 weeks and decided to run a great deal, which he didn't do at all the times he did train! DA DA DA DUMMMMM! But he agreed to do it again next year! Good sport! I am an avid walker, and walked a 15 minute mile in this event, but I am planning to run the ESPN 5K in March 2011!
Yes hubby took off running/walking. which is highly suggested by former olympian Jeff Galloway! However as it is often said and quite repeatedly, don't do anything NEW on race day! But hubby knew better than the pro's on this one! LOL!
He was ahead of me, and I was doing great, keeping to my 15 minute mile! I recieved from my daughter a text notifying me that Daddy was ahead me and why wasn't I kicking the old mans butt! (I already knew this, I saw him take off). I was partly hoping to catch up with him, but was quite comfortable with my pace and my comfort level. I was enjoying taking every thing in! At mile 8 I saw his red shirt (he's a tall guy), so I sprinted through the crowd, weaving in and around people, it was seriously fast! No doubt people who were traveling behind me for a while must have thought I was nuts!!!! I caught up to him and totally surprised him! He was glad to see me and then told me he wore himself out! And was experiencing pain from over striding, OUCH! So I stayed with him a while, and he gave me his blessing to go ahead without him. I kept looking back, feeling badly for him. I already proved to myself I could do this, and I still felt fantastic to know finishing the next 5 miles would be easy! So I slowed down and walked with him. I had him lean against me and stretch at various points, MADE him get the biofreeze they were offering and told the medic he needed the tylenol.
Well we walked slower and at the end, we HAD to RUN through the finish hand in hand! It was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to continue my training! I talked my daughter and friend who has had WLS into doing the half with us next year! I am so excited at the thought!
I am a voyeur on this board and you have all inspred me so many times, and didn't know it! Thank You all!!!!
O.kay now I'll climb back into bed!

Congratulations on finishing the half. It's great to have a partner along for the journey.
