I just re-joined my gym.  I haven't excercised in over 3 years.  Can anyone offer me some advice on what I should do at the gym because I know I need to start off slow.  I was banded in March 2010 and am only down 34 pounds.  Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Does your gym offer any free trainer sessions with your membership?  I got two free sessions and they were invaluable... Julie

Aside from the trainer idea, really think about some of the things that you find that you enjoy or don't hate.

Brisk TM walking with an incline is an excellent cardio workout. Most gyms have cycling classes, dance-type classes, as well as a ton of strengthening equipment. Get a really good orientation for all the equipment they have and see what you like. You didn't say if yours has a pool, but those classes can also be really great as well as swimming in general.

As far as classes go, it's important not to be intimidated by people who have done them for a long time. Remember that everyone has to start somewhere. Try all sorts of different things including yoga and pilates if they are offered. Most people will be very encouraging.

The most important thing is to find the things that you enjoy doing because that is the biggest determining factor in creating successful long-term exercise habits.
