Hypothetical Disney Half PR attempt question.

***Warning: Star Wars nerd alert****

My half PR is 2:03 and change set about 3 years ago.  I feel like with good weather (looks to be in the 40's at the start) I have a good chance to beat it and go below 2 hours.

Here is the senario:

I have completed 12 miles of the race in about 1:50.  My legs are hurting and I really want to be done but knowing that I am 10 minutes from beating my PR at slightly slower than 9 minute pace is pushing me toward a fantastic finish.  I enter EPCOT and head toward the out and back portion near the lagoon.  As I reach the turn around I look over and see what I have been waiting to see since I began running Disney races.  Darth Vader is standing there with two storm troopers and line for pictures is 5 people long. (of course I have my camera with me)  Stopping will most certainly derail my PR plan but here is the moment I have been waiting for.

What to do - what to do?

Honestly, this event is unlikely because everyone knows that Darth Vader is more likely to be seen in Hollywood Studios during the full but just in case I have to have gone over it in my head so I don't choke.

tough decisions.  At the 12th mile I'm not even sure I could recognize darth vader.  Best bet is to average 8 min miles, that way you have time should the scenario transpire. :)

Good point.  If I just hammer the first 12, there is no issue.  I'll trust my training and use the force!  ;)

Honestly, being a huge Star Wars nerd myself (You were the chosen one Anakin!) the minute I saw Darth Vader I would forget about a PR and get a pic with the Sith Lord and try to PR in a month or so at a local HM. Half Marathons are going on all the time all over the US, how often do you get a chance for a pic with the master of all evil?

I like that answer.  How often does one get a chance at a picture with a sith lord?  hehe  They are usually so ornery.

tough one, you could hammer the race and then double back for the pic...
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Since it is Disney, you have to go for the picture.  Get your PR at another race.  I still remember that Disney was my first marathon, and I bought a micro camera the day before the race.  I thought I had lost it prior to the race when I hit the restroom.  I found it after the marathon when I sat down to have a snack.  I'm probably the only person in America who has run a marathon with a camera wedged in their shorts.  I did get some good shots which I shared with my surgeon and his staff.  But none of Mickey.

Can you do a relay and pass the "Chip" to an Ewok at 12?

I say you haul ass and then run the 2 miles back to Vader.

My son got to do the Star Wars battle at Disneyland 2 years ago.

They pulled him up on stage to fight Darth Maul.  I was jealous to say the least.
I would have put a beating on his ass.
