I'm 12 days post op (lap band) and I am super anxious to start working out. I know that there's not much I can do yet because I need to heal. Other than walking, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

You really need to follow your surgeon's orders. I had open ds and it was walking until 6 weeks then I was cleared for weight machines, elliptical, etc. I didn't feel like I was able to do that until 3months. I would call the surgeon tomorrow and ask. I'm sure you would be cleared sooner than me.

I asked my surgeon the day after surgery several things, including exercise, and I got the same answer for everything... "If it hurts, don't do it"

That's good advice, actually. I hate programs that micromanage you on what you eat and when and how often you exercise. Everyone's different and heals at different weights.

Just increase gradually and back off if it hurts.

I started out walking everywhere.. using the stairs.. parking far away from the entrance... and then I added in the elliptical machine.  Its a nice low impact way to get going until you're ready to start couch to 5k (not that you couldn't start right now :).

Lots of advice here on the board.  Post your workouts as an accountability routine daily as well, it works, lots of us do it religiously.
