last goofy training session b4 taper
just finished my last goofy training session, taper starts now, first race is 2 weeks from tomorrow! yikes.
did 10 miles yesterday on the TM, did 20 miles today on the local greenway. man i'm beat, and candidly, i'm pretty tired of training, it's been a long year with a lot of big events. now on to the dreaded taper. my hammy held out today, but it is really sore, i think it will be good to go, just no more speed wor****il after the races. i will do one more longish run (12 miles) next weekend and that's it.
i changed up my training for this event to avoid overuse injuries which have plagued me consistantly. i only ran 3 days per week, one speed day (either HIIT or mile repeats), one medium tempo run, and one long run, the medium and long runs on back to back days to prep my legs for the goofy. so far it has worked, only the minor hammy issue, but the IT band held up. i will let you know if the modified training schedule was effective after the race!

You're definitely ready! I had a lot of fun at the Disney marathon. I took one of those $3 throws from Walmart with me to sit on until the start. It was more comfortable than the pavement in the wee hours of the morning. I think it was the best $3 I spend on that trip since you have to get there so early.
Have a great time!

For my first Disney, I got a $5 fold up stool from Walmart and carried it to the start. Some people looked at me like I was a genius but many looked at me like I was an idiot. As it turned out there was a guy there who was in his 70's that was running his 99th marathon. He ended up using it more than I did. Still a good investment but I havn't done it since.

Good luck and have fun!
I second Cassie's suggestion about something to sit on! It does SUCK at the holding area. Lots of people and nothing but concrete to sit on. Last year it was snowing :( Just check the weather and make sure you're as prepared as you can be! Warmth at the start line is the only thing I wish I had done differently last year. You can buy bagels/hot chocolate/coffee if you want, just an FYI.
Enjoy it, can't wait to read your race report!

One of the reasons that I don't run more marathons is the training time. I don't want to short myself on training every time and I found that I just didn't have the time and more importantly the desire to do the long runs. Even with half comming up, I have done 4 runs over 10 miles but they were tough getting mentally prepared for. I am perfectly content at this point doing 5 and 10K's and the training fits nicely into the schedule. Even a long workout for 10K prep is done in an hour.
You are well prepared for this event. You will look back with hugh pride. I hope to see you out there.

yep, the family is going with me as well as my father and mother. my father was planning on running the marathon with me, but an injury made him switch up to walking, now he's going to walk the goofy :)
