How bad does the weather have to get before you stop exercising outside??
Was riding my bike in the rain this afternoon...Cold, wet, resistance down. It was either that or exercise in the house...walking, push ups (modified), jumping jacks, aerobic moves. I know some of you from the colder areas are thinking..."Poor baby...it must have been 50 degrees out there in California"!!
Thought we could get a thread going on when you go inside to exercise...Snow, rain, fog, ice. Or do you just brave it out there??

I gotta be honest-I draw the line at freezing rain. I can deal with very cold air, but cold and wet keep me indoors. Last night was the first time in a week that the roads haven't been iced over so I ran. I was stopping every 50 meters when I would hit a slick spot because I am really afraid to get hurt and be out for an extended period.
I LOVE to run outside in the cold, especially if it is snowing...There is something very quiet and peaceful to me. I am in Grand Rapids, Michigan and it is cold (in the 20's or lower) and snowy here.
As I usually exercise in the very early am (4:30 - 6:00 am) it is also dark. I did promise my wife I would only run outside if I was with somebody else. If my running buddy doesn't show up, I stay inside on the dreadmill. Saturdays, I usually am with the running club, so there are about 30-40 of us, outside, running...yea, we're all just a little (ok a lot) nuts!
Gotta watch the ice...I think that is how i must have injured my Achilles...So now I will be in-side doing cross training (bike and weights) for a week - no running...Heck of a way to end the year.
But, my plan is to do a 25K in May and Marathon in October, so I have plenty of time to train and don't want to have the injury...So I'll be a good boy and stay inside for a week or so...

last winter when i was highly motivated I would not go out when it was less than 30 degrees or actively snowing/sleeting/freezing rain. A few days after a snowfall when sidewalks are mostly clear is ok, but i live in an urban area and run on streets, so when the snowbanks pile up the roads narrow, so it's sidewalks only, and there's a lot of danger of slipping.

I love running outside...especially when it's cold & there's snow everywhere. I feel like it 's a better workout....could be my running tights are too tight or i'm just a little crazy...but I'm a big fan of rain, cold, snow...SIGN ME UP!!! :) I'm DYING for it to start snowing here in New England... :)

I love the outdoors, unless it's icy or there's a bone-chilling rain.

alright, i'll be the wuss to post. man, since i lost the weight, i can't stand to run/bike in anything below 45 degrees rain or shine.... it really sucks that i'm so thin skinned now, i used to love it cold. and on the other extreme, heat is kryptonite, if it's above 85, it makes me miserable running, biking is ok in the heat because of the wind etc. soooo, that why i'm such a freakin treadmill junkie :)
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

I should have mentioned before moving to Kansas, 18 years ago I lived in Hawaii for 5 years, and Texas for 4, so the majority of my childhood was spent in a warm climate, then Kansas has so extremes...never have gotten used to it. The wind in the winter especially can be brutal out here. Not much snow, but I have to admit I think I was spoiled by the weather in both places....because I absolutely hate being cold, and since weight loss, it's like the cold shoots right through me anymore....
This is off of the topic a little, but have you considered getting a trainer and riding your bike in the house when you cannot go outside? Depending on how into biking you are, they have training videos as well as scenic videos that you can get for your workout. Just a thought since it sounds like you might not like your indoor workout all that much.
