What is the proper technique for lifting weights to increase/maximize weightloss? Is it high reps low weight or vice versa?

I know more muscle weight will make me a more effective calorie burner, so should I focus primarily on strengthing large muscle sets?

Am I over-thinking this?

You can use weight training to maximize fat loss not weightloss. The more muscle you add or hang on to while losing weight is the better off you will be in the end. I do each body part twice a week with 1 day as heavy as possible(6-8 reps) and the other day a little lighter at 8-12 reps. I combined this with morning cardio b4 eating and put on 25 pounds while staying in the same size clothes.
