I am registering for a 5k Jan. 22nd. I have never run before. I can do 4 miles easily in 45 minutes walking/jogging. I need advice from people who have finished a 5k. I do not want to fail at this and not want to do it again.

4 miles in 45 minutes is awesome!  Keep up the great work, you're going to do fine!  Keep doing the same 4 miles taking less and less walk breaks and you will certainly be able to run the whole 5K, no sweat!!!  Right now you are on target for a 36 minute 5K - which is totally respectable!

You're ready NOW!  Don't even worry about your time... I've seen peoples' firsts be anywhere from 27 to 50+ minutes.  My first was in September and I finished at 39:45 and was not even last in my age group.   Plus, whatever you finish at, it'll be your personal best and give you something to look forward to beating at your next one!

Keep on running and when the day comes, just enjoy the heck out of the experience.  I cannot imagine doing one in January LOL... we've already got snow on the ground here!
