Strengthening core muscles before Gastric bypass RNY
My back hurts!
I know it would be easier (now) to just do nothing before getting the gastric bypass rny and start exercising after some weight falls off BUT..
The more I think about it..
I think I will have less pain and get on my feet faster equaling easier faster results + healing if I start now.
PROBLEM... My back hurts when I exercise to reduce my back pain...
What can I do to strengthen my core without killing my back?

That is kind of a complex answer because we don't really know why it hurts. It has been my experience that for me, stretching and keeping some core strength helps with back pain. My default core exercises are plank and supine hip raises.

When I am doing well and my back feels good, I am doing 20 minutes or so about 4 days a week. Often times weak hamstrings and abs contribute to pulling the pelvis out of whack because of tight quads and low back muscles. I would bet that if you even out the strength and flexibility of the abs, hamstrings, quads and low back/glutes, you would feel better.

Always consult with your doctor in regards to pain.
I can share what has worked to build core strength for me. I used to be a million (it felt like) crunches girl with little results. I started doing Yoga about 6 months ago and it works the core well, if you have the right instructor. I also run a lot and I'm sure that helps too. Hope this is helpful and I hope your back start feeling better.

My surgeon advices his patients to do cardio prior to surgery in order to lower the risks of surgery. I think that would be a better bet than try to spot strengthen a part of your body. It will also help you lose more weight prior to surgery and that will help with the recovery and back issues more than core work will at this point.
