lateral knee pain while running
I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced lateral knee pain while running? I have been experiencing this knee pain while running during past month. I reduced the amount I am running and switched to P90X (which is great ! ) I took a week off to rest and heal last week but the pain always comes back about 2 miles into my run. I have self diagnosed IBS ( and will see my DR later this week to confirm ) but want to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and what you may have done remedy it. Thanks
I was fighting a chronic IT band injury (also self-diagnosed) all summer and a couple of things really helped me.
1) I started wearing a knee strap while running. This didn't get rid of the problem, but if I placed it correctly, I was usually able to run much farther before I felt any pain. This is the one I have:

2) I started using a pilates roller after every run. This helped reduce the post-run pain, which would normally last for at least two days. Ice and ibuprofen are good for this too.
The knee strap and the pilates roller together had me pretty close to cured (~ 80-90% improvement), but the pain went away completely after having to take a four week exercise break while recovering from plastics. Yesterday, I ran a half marathon (without my knee strap) and had absolutely no knee pain at all. I think I'm cured for now.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
