Getting Close
I started cycling this fall with a couple of friends and none of them wanted to ride in the rain, so I set out alone.
Rode 83 miles (incl some good climbing) and came home freezing, soaked to the bone, and loving my life. I am so thankful that I was able to have this surgery and got my life back.
In a couple weeks I'll be doing my first century ride- even if I have to do it alone...it will be so worth it.
Thanks for all the inspiration you Fitness Folks!!! It helps immensely!

There aren't any centuries happening around here anytime soon, but I can't wait for January when my friends and I are making our own. We're planning on doing a couple loops around the bay and have roped in some friends to be SAG vehicles so we'll be supported.
But like I said, I can't even wait that long so I'll probably do one on my own in a couple of weeks!!!
From only riding 15miles in Sept, to a 100miles in Dec is so exhilarating!

Check out this ride, it is one of the best centuries around. Nothing but praise from the riders.
I have heard several people complain about the support being too good and the food too abundant. Complaining about gaining weight during a 100 mile ride. Then after the ride they throw a great catered bbq.
I volunteered last year. If you volunteer, the club puts on a ride the following week for everyone that volunteered, and it is fully staffed with aid stations and another catered bbq.
Plus the ride takes place through the Russian river valley and all the beautiful vineyards.
It's a wonderful ride.
Another thing to look at if you want to incread your riding is one of the Brevet series, like this one.

It is a total of 5 rides that progress like this, 200 km, 200km, 300km, 400km, 600km
The cost for the whole series is only 100.00 These rides are self supported though. The idea is to build up mileage and learn to be self supporting for tour riding or double centuries etc.
I believe that the San Francisco cycling club also has a Brevet series.
I plan to use the first couple 200 km rides as training/prep for the California triple crown this year.
The Brevets are a cheap way of finding out if you are ready and in shape.
Good luck with the century ride, enjoy your time.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Yeah I've been thinking about getting into brevets as I love the distance endurance aspect of riding.
Whatever will get me ready for those 545 miles this June!!
