Thanks for the reply,  which 4 fulls did you do?  I did Los Angeles both times.

How long ago did you have your surgery?

I had surgery in Dec of '05  and did the '07, '08 and '09 Disney and the '07 Hyannis Marathons.  No more Fulls for a while!  All my race reports are in the link in my signature if you are interested.  Good luck in your ultra!!!

I'm a total newbie to the concept of running much less the sport.  I know enjoy 5Ks and am working towards running a full 5K I completed my first 5K 11weeks post-op I didn't run the whole thing.

Looking forward to my 5k goal for next year plus the one 10K I have committed to.

GOOD FOR YOU,  A 5K IS A GREAT START,  SOON YOU WILL BE DOING A 1/2 MARATHON AND THEN THE FULL.  IT IS THE GREATEST FEELING TO CROSS THAT FINISH LINE AND KNOW YOU DID IT.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.  AND IT IS OK TO WALK,  WALKERS ARE THE GREATEST

Walking or running a full is a daunting experience, after having done mine, I think walking it might actually be harder - the last 5 or 6 miles I kept running because I told myself, I need this to be over as soon as possible!  No way was I walking and extending the pain any longer than it needed to be extended!     :)

Congrats on getting a 2 fulls done.

Since I am a trained Racewalker,  Walking is easier,  and with the correct training, there is no pain.  My 1st LA Marathon, I did it in 6.29,  and the last 2 miles, I had my shoes off,   I have learned so much since then.   This year I did it in 6.21, and had no pain.   I had told myself b4 the Marathon stated this would be my last full,  to train as a walker it takes alot longer and a lot of time.  But I felt so good when I finshed, I told myself I have to do a 50k (31.2 miles) to get my full Marathon faster.    So on 12-5-2010 I am doing my 1st ultra 50k.

With walking, I not fast, I get a pace and keep to it.  I since alot of runners pass me but at the finsh line, I come in b4 a lot of them.    I love to say I bet a runner,

Yea, I think the time investment component is what makes walking one such an accomplishment. Not that I run fast, but 3 hour training runs every week consumes a lot of time one could spend doing other things.  I think racewalking a marathon is probably very healthy and actually really good for your body.. as opposed to running a marathon, which I am convinced, is horrible on one's body (not that I intend to stop :)  )

There was a time when I hated it when the walkers beat me while I was trying to run, but I think its pretty cool now.  50k is a LONG way!  Best of luck to you, you sound like you got this for sure ;)

I have never even heard of a walking marathon, where could I get more info on that? I live in Cleveland Ohio.

Thanks
