Weekends Off???

I'm 6 months, almost 7 months post RNY.  Have lost 85 lbs from my highest weight.  I spend one hour in the gym, 30 minutes doing cardio, 30 minutes on weights, Monday - Friday.  I've been taking Saturday's and Sunday's off, not going to the gym.

I'm thinking I would like to go for a run or bike ride.  I don't want to "over" train, but have come to really enjoy the energy and great feeling I have after my workouts.

Thoughts and comments????

This stuff is so individual. I find I must have two days off each week or I hurt. I can workout 6 days a week once in a while but not regularly. But other people do 6 days a week all the time.

One thing to keep in mind: it's very important to have rest days. Rest is when your muscles repair themselves and therefore it's when all fitness gains happen. If you short change your rest, you short change your fitness (i.e., you don't get as fit as you could based on the effort put in)

Therefore, if you want to do something different on the weekends and it's a great idea -- it's good to mix things up like that -- I'd be open to cutting out one of your gym days, if turns out you really need two recovery days or it turns out you want to do something on Saturday *and* Sunday.

Have to agree, its really individual.  I personally find I train pretty hard.  When I lift, I just wanna hurt.  When I run, I have a hard time keeping a slower pace.  As such, I end up training 4 days a week at most.  When I do more, I end up paying for it bad at the end of the week (as does anyone who has to deal with me)

I run every day but it took almost 4 years to get to the point where I could. I think that you should try it out and see what happens. If you start to feel run down or notice some tweaks comming on, lay off for a bit. My advice to new post ops is to ease into it easily. After a long period of being sedentary your body may take some time to get used to the new routine. Exercise is a lifetime committment and judging from your picture, you have plenty of time to perfect your routine.

Maybe take Friday off and do a longer run/ride on Saturday.  You would have a rest day on Friday and Sunday to recover.  Your other 4 1-hour workouts aren't out of line so Saturday's shold be OK...
