Resting Heart Rates

OK, here's the story.  Almost 6 months ago I had RNY surgery, to date I have lost 125lbs.  I have been doing cardio the whole time.  I have had some problems with dizziness off/on since surgery, they thought it could be blood pressure dipping or leaping upon standing from sitting or laying.  So everytime I felt dizzy I would go to get it checked, it was perfect.   Until a few weeks ago, now my bp is a little low not bad, but they are worried about my heart rate.  My average resting heart rate is between 40-50, sleeping dips into the 30's, moving around normal tops of 60.  Exercising it goes up to 150-160 if I am working hard.  I was training for my first 5K on Nov. 20th, but have been benched pending my cardiologist visit that I don't even have a date for yet!  Needless to say I am not happy.  I heard that resting heart rates this low are a good thing, it shows your healthy.  When I brought that I think they thought I was funny by the look I got.  But I'm serious, If I started exercising at 404lbs, continued doing cardio this whole time, drop 125 lbs, started working even harder, then it's conceivable to me at least that my heart is just well conditioned now.  But listening to doc, mostly by the enforcer AKA my wife.  But want so bad to get back to it!  So scared of slipping back!

Anyone else have low resting HB?

yep, mine is in the middle to upper 40's to low 50's.  i used to have issues with dizzyness/head rushes when i stood up, i haven't had as many issues lately.  the doc thought it could be low BP, it may, but i've upped my vitamins including B-12 and brought my calories up and the dizzy spells (mostly) went away.

I also agree with your wife, listen to your medical team, if something seems off, then seek a 2nd opinion.

best of luck.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Prior to Surgery my BP avg was 140/90  my avg now is 90/50, my resting heart rate was in the mid 90s and now is in the mid 50s low 60s.  I have had issues with dizziness and spoken with my medical team and the consensus is that my body is still in the process of adapting to the changes in my heart rate and stuff.

Had the same issues with low heart rate and dizziness like you.  I'm going all over the place with this post...But I hope to touch a lot of subjects.  The dizziness went away...I try to drink more orange juice-an oz at a time, throughout the day (for the potassium).  Things high in potassium are; oranges, tomatoes, yogurt, broccoli, avocado, raisins, spinach.  I added a small amount of salt to my diet...That helped to...Iodized salt.  Wonder if we are coming up short on our Iodine?
Concerning the heart rate, I think it's a vitamin deficency...I really do.  I'm going through this in my mind and really believe this is the case.  (Bye the way, I'll try and post a link to a threat I put up on the Main Board about this last week).
OK...Here is the kicker.  I too have a low pulse (58-64)...It use to be in the 40's.  Went through all the heart studies.  Two things I found...Strange but true.  A friend gave me a sample of Vibe (liquid vitamin).  Within 1 second my heart rate was back to normal.  I sip on this stuff throughout the day.  It is multilevel marketing (which I can't stand) but it helped bring my heart rate up.  If you can find someone who sales this stuff ask for a sample and see what happens (I do not sell this stuff).
The other thing I think I have found out is I may be low in Vitamin K.  I bought a cream for my thin skin (because of age and I am on blood thinners) that had Vitamin K.  The stuff is called Vita-K Solution.  After a few seconds of applying the stuff to my hands and arms...My pulse went up!!  The next time I get my labs done I will ask about a test for Vitamin K.  Just me...My 2 cents.  Brian  PS  These sound like old wife's tales...but we are walking in uncharted territory.  Not Dave (who use to post here) will puree his chicken salad...crazy or ahead of the curve??

Are you seeing bariatric doctors or regular ones? Because dizzy spells are very common after WLS, but non-bariatric doctors might not be aware of that.

One other thing to check is your blood glucose when you're dizzy.  That's often another cause.
