I'm a beginner. Any tips on building up distance, protecting knees and ankles, and breathing techniques. Thanks.

I like the couch to 5k program. Its interval training. I don't have any tips on breathing.

I'm reading a great book by John Bingham called "Marathoning for Mortals." He also has a website that is wonderful, informative, and inspiring.

Thank you; I will check that out. I need some help on the breathing most importantly. I get breathless very quickly; within 5 minutes of the run. I appreciate your help.

Are you on Facebook?  Look for the C25K and Cool Running groups -- they send out several short articles daily, and regularly talk about all those things.  It's cool to get the pointers, and helps keep you interested in continuing, especially early on when it's hardest.

Start easy and give yourself time to adjust to the work you are now putting on your legs. If you feel some pain, rest a bit. This is a long term committment.

I just started running again.  It was over nine years ago that I stopped.  I found a program that progresses to longer and longer runs from walking.  For example:  Week 1, day 1: walk one minute, jog one minute.  It provides days to rest and also just walk in between.
