Wicked 10k race report...
Wow, this was such an exciting day....let's see if I can remember it all...
The day kinda started the night before, I laid out all of my clothes and all of the kids clothes...including my husbands..I tried to go to bed early but my stomach was all in knots so I finally fell asleep around 10:30.
I woke up at about 5 and had my half bagel and started drinking my water, got the family up around 5:30 (they all did so good, I have such a great family!!!), I had to dress my husband, which takes forever...don't forget he had major arm surgery on Monday and can't use his arm and I have to put on his brace...I have to say by this time I was getting frustrated because we were starting to run a little late.
We get to the Convention Center (early), I stretched and went to the bathroom (about 4 times), We stayed inside for as long as we could, because it was so cold outside, and because there were so many costumes to look at, it was just amazing!! About 30 min before race time I head out to my corral and start my wait. I wanted to get used to the cold, so stretched some more and jumped in place to stay warm. I was in the 4th corral and when we finally went I just kept repeating to myself "Run your own race", I saw a lady cruise by me and I said to myself I will see you later, and sure enough I passed her at about 4 miles, with a big grin on my face. As I was running I looked at my watch and was amazed that I had already gone 2 miles, that was easy...as I was passing people I just was in awe...I was doing good until about 4.5 miles, I started to think, "Go ahead you can walk", but then I would say "No, you have trained for this you can do this, just RUN!!!"
So, once we turned the corner and got onto the boardwalk I knew this was it, Home Stretch...I saw the balloons and that was it, I had just enough left to kick it up a few notches and started really passing people and finally finished the race at 1:09.41
I have to say there were times I wanted to quite, but when I would look at my pace and how it just kept whizzing by, I knew I could do it. The weather started warming up and ended up being perfect, and there was so much to look at, so many wonderful costumes!!!
Thanks to everyone that supported me, I thought of all of you as I was about to walk, and you all outweighed the "evil Erin" on my shoulder and I appreciate it so much!!! My family too, they are just amazing...My teenager was just so great and the 10 year old never complained about having to get up so early. What a great day!!!
Thanks to everyone yet again!!!!
Here I am at home, looking a little ragged, but happy!!!
