November 5K

So I am gearing up to do a 5K in November. It is a nighttime 5K through an area decorated for the holidays from what I have been told.  The really awesome part is my 8 year old son wants to do it with me, which I will let him if they have an age group for him.  The seoncd cool part is my in-laws are going to be in town that weekend visting.  They haven't really seen me since surgery and last time we really visited them it took everything I had to do a 2 mile hike with my son and father-in-law.

Still not able to run the whole thing but I know I can finish now!

That's awesome ..... let him run with you anytime he wants, even if it slows you down. I'd give anything for my 11 year old just to WANT to.

if your 8 year old WANTS to run with you and CAN do a 5k, registered or not, let him do it!  That's so great!  It also sounds like a beautiful way to run at night!

My 13 year old nephew just ran his first 5k in September wtih me and his mom.  he beat me by 1 second with a come from behind win!  I'm super proud!
Read my blog, BARIATHLETE   I run because I can.

Don't worry about the age group for your son.

I just registered my kid in the last race as an adult, I wanted him to get one of the nice shirts they were giving to the adults.  They didn't have different race segregation for the kids or adults, everyone started at the same time.  He wasn't going to win his age group anyhow because unfortunately he is slow like his dad.

The important part was to support each other and make it a fun event for him.  Try to keep the encouragement up and get him interested in exercising.

Good luck and have fun.

Scott

Well I went to get the info to register and they have met their max number of runners for that one.  I need to find one to replace this one.  But we are doing the jingle jog in december as a family.

Have you looked at the impossible 5K next month?

Nov 7th.  The race starts at 1:50am and DST kicks in at 2:00am  so you get a negative time.  It is a PR as long as you finish.
