I am in the midst of the wait... I am planning to go with pacific baractric in san diego I have it all done paperwork and labs now I am just waiting to see the surgeron and surgery date. I am currently doing cardio just cardio about 50 minutes a day usually 360 to 460 calories burned according to the machines.. I am wondering should I conentrate on just that for now Or should I add any weight traning I think of the eliptical as a resistance type thing and do rowing for about 10 minutes and walking now. I hope the preparation will ease my recovery. I look forward to your advice.. i am 5ft1 217 and 49 years old and as you can imagine I was pretty sendendary till the past couple of months...

I stuck with cardio because I had to show consitent weight loss at every appointment.  I knew that weigh training could have helped some but to show the ability to lose the weight I focused on what I knew would not stall the numbers, even though I would have been replacing fat with muscle.

What does you surgeon want?

I agree with everyone else. Weight / resistance training and cardio are critical!

I did cardio, cardio, cardio and yes the weight came off, but I lost a lot of muscle strength after the surgery.  I wish I had spent more time doing some resistance/strength building exercises.
It is much harder to add strength/muscle back on than it is to keep from losing it.

On top of that the muscle is going to continue to burn calories during the day.

Wow interesting.. thanks to both of you for taking time out to reply and giving me food for thought. I gotta admit I was hoping to hear work on your Arms now.. or legs. I know we are all so unique I really appreciate the feedback  for now I will try my best keeping with the cardio and adding weights for my arms (every gals fear) trying to avoid the arm flaps..

My surgeon likes us to do cardio pre-op because it lowers the risk of surgery. Post-op he likes us to do card and strength training.

I admit, I didn't add in strength training until I was about 6 months out. I just didn't have time what with all the running, biking and swimming I was doing. I think I must make muscle pretty easily though because I still had some from the swimming and running at least. Now that I'm doing actual strength training, I'm even kind of buff.
