Tingly toes

I've been training to do a half marathon since August. I am really slow, and am only now starting to make progress in adding distance. I ran my first 5k last weekend. I feel strong, and confident that I will be ready for the big day.

I wasn't feeling well for a couple of days, and yesterday I ran for the first time in about 4 or 5 days. I did about four miles, and in the last mile or so, my toes started to tingle. It was similar to the "pins and needles" sensation you get when your foot falls asleep. Not the numb part, but the part where it gets all *****ly and the feeling starts to return. It was worst on the balls of my feet, which, after a while, felt like they were ice cold and raw.

I tried to ignore it for as long as I could, but eventually it became too painful and I was near the end anyway. The tingling stopped and my feet felt back to normal within about ten minutes.

Anyone have this happen? Any thoughts? My labs are current and all my bloodwork is fine. I'm very vigilant about vitamins and supplements, although deficiency is always my first thought. My shoes are great and they have never bothered me before.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

My first thought is that your shoes may have been too tight, but I'm sure you would have noticed that. It may have just been a fluke thing since you had been ill. I don't have any great ideas, but I just hope it doesn't happen to you again. Good luck on the training!

Thanks for your post! It didn't happen today, although I did feel a little *****ly after I was done and riding home in the car. I'll keep an eye on it!

Hi: Linda! my feet have gone numb when running and my doc thinks it is an important artery on the top of my foot that gets pressed whem my feet start to swell from the activity.

For me, loosening the laces has helped me walk/jog it off. good luck!

Hey JJ, fancy meeting you here!

I was wearing pointy, narrow shoes with a little heel earlier in the day, and spent a good bit of time on my feet shopping. I wonder if the two are related.

I just get so nervous when any little thing goes awry. I'm worried that its going to become something that will derail me, and that is the last thing I want to happen. I've come too far not to see this through!
