First 1/2 marathon today!

Ran my first 1/2 marathon today! It was a beautiful day in the mid-40's. It was the Girlfriends Half Marathon in Vancouver, WA, along the Columbia River. It was a great course with just a few hills at the end. I did awesome for the first 5 miles - under 10 minute miles. Then, started slowing up a bit. At around 8 miles, I was starting to feel a rock rolling around in my shoe and was getting a sore toe. At mile 10, I thought I was toast. Thank god for hats and ipods. I just looked down and zoned out. I thought I would be emotional crossing the finish line, but I was just so freakin glad that the thing was over. My legs and back ached so bad! I grabbed some food and hobbled back to the hotel -- a hot shower did the trick! After the shower, we went back down the race and got free massages.

My goal was to just finish without walking, which I did. My time was 2:30:03. I was really happy to end up under 12 min/mile.

So, now we have our sights set on the Newport, Oregon marathon in June! We'll see how the training goes........

Great job, congrats!
For me it was the next day that really hurt, but the second 1/2 a couple weeks later I didn't notice the discomfort at all.  It does get better.  That or you just get acclimated to it.
