All

I've been running for about 18 months and done two half marathons, several 10ks and a Marthon. I've just entred a 75k mountain race and my main concern is getting enough fuel in during the race. I hit a wall in the Marathon at about 35k and the main reason was my lack of long runs. this year i will be doing enough long runs and am running the Dubai Marathon three weeks before as one of my long training runs.

Anyway what do others find as the best fuel to run with. Gels are OK with water but i also like jelly beans and Bananas.

For some of my long runs, I have used ham sandwiches on wheat or whole grain bread or oatmeal cookies and pretzle sticks. Even people with iron stomachs have trouble with lots of gel and beans. Good luck and congrats on your success thus far!!!

I ran 38.5 Miles in an 8 hour run a couple weekends ago and my fuel MAINLY consisted of Chips Ahoy, Potato Chips, Gels, Water, Salt Tabs, Bananas, and Oranges and I was money. A lot of it is trial and error. I think one of the most GREATEST advantages that we as WLS patients have is that unlike many of the other athletes out there, I have yet to experience the "Sloshing" sensation I hear about so often. We chew our food in our mouth, it slides through the pouch and into the digestice tract, and that's that. I find on my Ultras that I can eat lasagna, spaghetti, sandwichews, quesadilla, etc and have NO problems running immediately after! POWER TO THE POUCH!!!! Trial and error my friend, that's what training is all about. I am running a 100 mile ULTRA  next weekend and will let you know how my nutrition plan panned out...
