Race Report: City to Sea Half Marathon
This was my first half marathon. I chose it for the potential beauty of the race and semi easy course. Wasn't disappointed on either...although it was a bit tougher than I expected. The race was to begin in San Luis Obispo (central California) and end in Pismo Beach.
Myboyfriend and I went up the night before, we made a weekend of it, and enjoyed the "race" excitment when we picked up our race packets and timing chip. The next morning we really got a feel for the energy before the race as everyone hovered around the starting line. I started with the 10:00 min. pace group and pretty much stay the course at 10:00 miles until the last mile when I had a bit left and kicked it into gear! The course was slightly down hill the first 4-5 miles with some significant rise intermittantly in the middle. The last 1.5 miles was again slightly down hill and perfect for a "dash" to the finish. Needless to say, I probably let the excitment and the other runners zipping by push me faster, but it seemed to work out over all. The "vistas" as we neared the ocean were amazing and awe inspiring...proved to be a nice distracter when the finish was approaching and my legs were ready to stop. My 1/2 marathon (I like that phrase) time was 2:09. I had a goal of a 2:20 1/2, but "whata ya know!"
Overall, great fun and a true accomplishment...will I do more? No doubt more 1/2's, but longer races...time will tell!
Thanks for everyone's inspiration :) Debbie (a 1/2 marathoner)

A big, hearty contratulations to you. What an amazing experience!!
I'm holding steady at an 18-minute mile. I did a 5K this weekend and it took me 53 minutes and 30 seconds. So you're going nearly twice as fast as I am.
I'm training to do the DisneyWorld 1/2 in January. I have a lot of work to do, but my only goal is to finish. I don't care if I get there at midnight.
Yay for you! Keep up the great work!
