My goal is to build muscle and bulk up.

DSers need a lot of protein for life, so this is something I've actually done a bit of research about.  Best I could find is there is NO scientific evidence that we can only absorb a certain amount at one time (this is for a normie, having nothing to do with malabsorption).  This idea came from one guy in the early 1900s who said it in an old fitness article.  For some reason it caught on and has since been quoted as fact that around 25g is all we can absorb.

Best science says there is no real limit to how much protein (again, before malabsorption) we can absorb at one time.  Think about it, when we were cave people we didn't know when the next wildebeest was going to be available so when someone did drag home a big fat animal, we had to be able to absorb all the protein we could get at one time so we would survive until the next one was killed and brought back to the cave.  We evolved to take in protein when it was available.

I malabsorb about 50% of protein and I drink double scoop shakes once a day (about 50g of protein) as half of my protein for the day (I need 100g total at least). My protein levels on my labs have been consistently perfect as well as my hair, nails and skin being healthy.  That's a great indication for me!

Not only is there no scientific evidence that we can only absorb a certain amount of protein at a time, but there is some scientific evidence that we can, in fact, absorb more than 25-30 g.

However, our muscles can only absorb a certain amount at a time. So anything over that gets used in other ways. (I'm trying to find my notes as to how much we can absorb... more at rest than while working out.)

Also, according to Nancy Clark, a well-know sports nutritionist, it's actually a myth that you need to eat a ton of protein to build muscles. What you need is calories. It takes a calorie excess to build tissue. You want a certain amount of it to be protein because it aides in muscle repair, but over that amount, it's just calories and you might as well eat what you enjoy.
