Cape Henlopen Duathlon

Completed the Cape Henlopen Duathlon this morning!  The duathlon is a sprint, 1.5 miles, 14 miles, and 3.1 miles.  It took 1 1/2 hours to drive down to Cape Henlopen at 4:30 am, 1 1/2 hours waiting, picking up our registration, getting marked, and securing our bikes, under 1 1/2 hours running the race, and 1 1/2 hours to drive back home.

It was a great day weather wise for a race.  Temp started at 65 and didn't get above 75.   Headwinds as always were pretty significant on the bike ride, but with only 14 miles to go it was pretty easy to power through it.

We left pretty much right after finishing the race to hit a local bake shop in Lewes.  I found out later that I medaled by finishing second in my age group.  This is the second time I have come in second but haven't bothered to pick up my medal.  You would think I would learn not to finish in the top three.

Way to go Rob!  I am doing my first duathalon next week and I am a little nervous about it, just cause I never have even seen one.. how do they mark you up?

They put your number on your left upper arm in magic marker.  Then they also apply your number to the side of your leg and put your age on the back of your leg.  No big deal although it does take awhile to soap it off after you finish.

Good luck to you in the dual.  My only advice is to make sure you prepare for the transition from your cycle to last run stage.  The leg muscles you use are a little different, and your body can sometime get confused.   I try and stand up on the bike for a couple ten second intervals about a mile or two before dismounting the bike.  Different things work for different people.

Enjoy it.

A Du sounds like a lot of fun, have never done one. Rob, you are the man buddy! STICK AROUND FOR YOUR FLIPPIN MEDAL NEXT TIME!!!!

I heard a pretty good post from a good frined. She said: "I think I chose the wrong hobby. I finished 1st in my age group today in a half marathon and got a cool shirt and nice medal. My brother placed 14th in a fishing tournament this weekend and got $2400. DUMB FISH"

So true... lol
