Hey, I missed being on the site for about a week or week and a half. I have been in so much pain. At first I didn't know what was wrong with my legs because I have never felt this before. I pray to God that I never get it again.  I keep my legs elavated as much as possible. I haven't been able to hardly walk, but I have missed my running and walking. I really felt good while I was doing it. Hopefully, soon I will be able to start up again.

I am sure some of you guys have had shin splints before. What did you do to help with the pain and how long did you have it.

Thanks,

Ronda

I deal with shin splints every day. ICE, Compression, Elevate! Also, Compression socks help a ton. Be sure when you are out running you are on an even surface without side slopes, that can exacerbate the issue significantly. try running on grass or trails to mix it up a bit. Best of luck and take it easy...

I have them and I find that if I tape first it solves the problem

Kinesion tape.  It is a stretch tape that provides a little bit of tension and pulls the skin/muscle away from the are that is tender.

I do a strip down the shin on the side that hurts.  I anchor it under the foot and below the knee.  I also put a strip around the leg just under the knee.

There are a bunch of videos on youtube on how to tape for different injuries using the kinesio tape.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

I just checked on YouTube.  You may want to type in shin splints exercises and see what comes up.  I had them in college...when I was a distance runner...Yeah, I use to run up to 10 miles without stopping, before the weight gain.  Brian
