GARMIN?

Okay, so I HATE shopping for "toys" that I know nothing about. At BIG 5, the staff, knew less than I did!

I THINK I want a Garmin, but there are so many brands out there...all sorts of bells and whistles. How do I figure it all out?? I literally spent an hour looking and reading boxes, etc., then finally said forget it, and left.

Here is what I want my new "Toy" to do:

Track my pace, time, distance
Have the abilty to time my workouts, with splits if I so desire.
Track my heart rate (although this is not #1 for me).
Be fairly easy to use, with minimal set up on my computer (which is due to be replaced soon).

Cleaning the house and cooking would be nice too...

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thanks!

Kathy
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

405 with heart monitor is what I use.  Gives you this kind of data:  http://connect.garmin.com/activity/30451690

I use the 305
The 310 is the newest model.
Both of them can do everything you want and more.
They both can have cadence sensors and an magnet to track your speed indoors when you might not be able to get a satellite signal.  This is a nice pluse that can be added to bikes to give you that information as well.  This is good for indoor training during the winter when the weather might be too bad to head out for a bike ride.
Plus the 310 is waterproof, so if you decide to do a Triathlon, or just want to time your swim, you can take it in the water with you.

If you don't need the waterproof function, then the 305 is significantly less expensive than the 310 because it is the older model.  It still has the same features.

The screens are configurable so that you can see the information you want to see.  They have multiple screens as well, so you could have one screen setup with your current info like your current speed, heart rate, time of day calories burned etc, and another screen with averages displayed.

You can also setup virtual training partners.  Setup a pace or training session and it will display on the screen how far ahead or behind you are with your goal.  It also has audible beeps that can be set to warn you when you are over or under your set goal.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

THANKS GUYS!!!

You both totally Rock. I just spent some time on the Garmin site. NOW it makes so much more sense to me!  I was looking for a HR monitor that didn't require the "strap" around the chest, etc., but that technology isn't out yet. No wonder I was getting so frustrated!

And the Garmin Connect site....well, very very cool! I'm a visual person, and love the graphs/charts.

Thanks again!!

No only garmin connect but at least 3 other sites that I use can import the garmin data.
ridewithgps
dailymile
workoutlog

I'm sure there are others as well.

i had a garmin 405 but i broke when my cat knocked it off my counter, my new(er) one is the 310XT, waaaay better, and it is built for long distance triathlon.  you can swim with it and it has a great battery life (20 hours).  i would suggest NOT using any garmin model with the touch bezel, it is a pain in the a$$ if you have a drop of sweat on your fingers and it is very sensitive if you don't lock it down during training or a race, it used to click when my wrist would touch it.  i suggest any model with real buttons and avoid the touch bezel... my $0.02.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.
