My first race report!
Hi Everyone!
I am so excited to finally be able to put up my own race report! I tried to put some pics in, but can't get them to work, please check them out on my profile! Here goes!
I got up early at around 5:30 so I could get something to eat and get nicely hydrated. Luckily I had slept pretty well! I ate a bowl of Special K protein cereal and after a while started drinking my protein decaf coffee....
It was pretty chilly, which was nice because it has been such a hot humid summer and it was very nice to be out in the cool air.
Got to the race venue at about 7:20 and met up with my buddies that had come out to run with me. Most of them are pretty serious runners, but they came out to run this race with me because they are so proud of me and what I have accomplished so far.
I ate half a banana and did a quick warmup jog and stretch....then I started to get very nervous! Waiting around for the start was a combination of excitement and horror!
Once we got started, things moved pretty quickly. The race was a funraiser for breast cancer, and was done in a fun format...Chase the TA TA's! The women racers started first, and then 3 minutes later, you guessed it....the men were released to chase the TA TA's! It didn't seem like long at all before we were being blown away by the guys!
I felt pretty good throughout the run, but I kind of struggled at about the 2.5 mile.
I have been running about a 13 minute mile...I know it is slow, but I can go for a long time! So I was hoping to finish in 40-41 minutes, but more than time, I just wanted to run the whole thing and finish strong.
I could not believe it when I rounded the last turn and read the time clock...I kicked it into high gear (well as much as I had left) and sprinted to the finish! I finished at 36:30! I cried a little and then thought I was going to puke (it's ok...lots of people were heaving)! Then I couldn't believe that it was over...
I had so much fun, proved alot to myself, and I can't wait to do it again.
Tomorrow is my 5 month surgiversary, I have lost 75 pounds, and I have only 19 more to go to get to my goal!
Thanks for reading!
Amy

What a great report, Amy. I think you beat my first 5k time by a few seconds. Sounds like you have great friends, too.
