GARMIN!  i swear by them, they are a bit on the expensive side, but worth it to me.  I have the forerunner 310XT model which is geared toward the triathlete (you can swim with it, and it has a long battery life).  there are cheaper garmin models as well.  Good luck!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Ditto on the Garmin. I use the 405. I'm OBSESSED with the data. When you're looking make sure you get one with GPS - will give you the distance/elevation info.

Garmin for sure, I have both the 305 and 405.  The 305 is big and bulky but easy to use.  The 405 is smaller, like a regular watch, but annoying as heck to use.

Both allow you to track everything both in real time, and then post process when you get home:

I have the Garmin 405. Like it a lot. Loads of features, some that I haven't even used yet. The only negative is where I sweat quite heavily,  when I do my long runs it would change screens. I should explain that by tapping the bezel you can change between one of three screens with different information on each screen. You can choose what comes up on each screen. Any way, where I sweat so much the moisture would cause it to change screens. The solution is to lock out the touch feature on the bezel. I keep mine on the screen that tells me my pace and mileage. I think if you go to Garmin's web site they have short videoes you can watch that explain the features. Another nice thing is it the way it down loads the information to your computer by it's self.
