Pre-op running problem/question

Good morning everyone.  A little about me.  I am currently 280# down from a high of 302#.  I have a date scheduled for RNY on 12/14/10.

I started a C25K program a few weeks ago and the first week was great.  I LOVED how I felt afterwards.  I used to run 3 miles every morning when I was in the Air Force about 15 years ago and this reminded me how I would feel after a run.

The bad thing is that I stopped the C25K because I was afraid that I was causing stress fractures in my legs.  I frequently get shin splints so I am very aware of how that feels and this was something totally different.

My question is, should I be concerned about it or should I just keep running.  I don't know if I am asking too much of my bones.  I can't afford the time away from work for "another" Dr. visit to get checked.  It is killing me to not continue the program.

Any thoughts?

Only you know how your body feels and how much is too much.  If you cannot afford to get checked out, then perhaps working out on less impactful exercises is better for now - walking, elliptical machine (where you can still do couch to 5K) or cycling (stationary or otherwise).

That said, I don't know what the likelihood is for fracturing bones while running...Usually obesity is tough on the joints, but the bones are strong.

If you run with good form, you will avoid injury. This includes well fitted shoes... try a running store (not a big box store) for a personalized fitting. They will have you run in the shoes and try on lots of pairs and should even do things like video tape you running.

Nate,
I second that!  Great to get moving in ANY way before surgery.
