duathalon
for you multisport folks.. I was thinking of signing up for this duathalon, its 2 weeks after my full so I think I can handle it, a 5k run +25mile ride +5k run. I have this fear of signing up, cause I have no idea what to expect, would love to have someone experienced join me to show me the ropes (hint hint).
In particular, I worry about the ride - are there any protocols during a race like this? Do you just pass at will? Will people try to draft off me (that would freak me out)? Am I going to be a complete idiot as a newbie? Any hints or advice? Should I just go volunteer first, or do you think I worrying about nothing and should just go do it?

In many races drafting is illegal, but that doesn't mean people wont do it. I see this is a USAT sanctioned race, so drafting is probably illegal.
You can download the USAT rules here http://www.usatriathlon.org/resources/about-events/rules
5. Drafting:
Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds.
Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing.
Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass.
Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again.
Penalty: Variable time penalty
Have fun and enjoy the race!
