Today I ran a 5K with my 13 year old nephew (his debut race) and my older sister.  I'm still recovering from my Marathon walk last week and preparing for my Half race in a few weeks - but I wanted to be there with my family.

They started out much faster than I cared to, so I let them run off ahead of me, and I eventually caught up and passed my sister, and then caught up to my nephew and ran with him for a while.  He was cramping a lot, but toughed it out.  At the last 1/2 mile mark I decided to push the pace a little to get a sub-30 time.  To my delight, he passed me at the very last second and beat me by 1 second!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love to win!  :)  But I'm so psyched for him that he had a goal of beating me, and despite feeling like crap he dug deep and chased me to the end.

My sister finished about 1 minute behind us and we celebrated with a free slice of pizza and candy bars.  I love a good family event!

It's fun running with family.
I enjoy the local races I have gotten to do with my son.
