First 5K
How much running have you done, have you run that far before? Sorry I haven't been around much lately, so I'm not up on what everyone has been working on.
If you haven't done any running, check out the c25k program. You won't finish that before the race, but you can certainly do that for the race. Intervals. Pick a distance every telephone pole or something like that and alternat walk/run.
3.1 miles can be walked in an hour at a very leisurly pace.
There are 4 things I would recommend.
Give yourself time to for the restroom lines prior to the race. ;-)
Run your pace. Don't get caught up in the excitement and take off with the jack rabbits.
Unless of course that is your pace.
Remember to thank the volunteers
Have fun and enjoy the experience

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Thanks, ya'll! That is a good idea about alternating walk/run and looking for a marker like telephone poles.
I did a 2 mile run about 10 years and 40 lbs. ago. I don't know how much I will be able to run, but I do think I will end up doing the alternating thing. We have one hour to finish, so realistically I could do a 3.1 mile per minute walk. I've been training on a treadmill and have gotten up to that speed and I have been varying the inclination to simulate hills, but I realize that it may be much different than the real l thing. I plan to do a trial "run" (pun intended) Saturday to get acquainted with the course.
