Tried Piltes- WOW very shocked!

I've lost 60lbs now, and am in much better shape that I was. However, I clearly overestimated my fitness level, as evidenced by yesterday mornings pilates class! I was so shocked about how little of it I could do.
I'm able to work 17 hour shifts, do 40 min on the elypitcal, and another 30 on weights and was just a bit proud of myself. This class really put me in my place and quickly.
I'm not really an aspiring gym rat, but I confess that I loose better, much better when I hit the gym hard. But the idea of being strong is becoming very attractive to me!

Any advise? I was planning to try it again, when I have lost more weight, or should I keep at it now.
I'd love to be strong like the older people in the class who were like rocks (I mean elderly, and I'm 42!) I told one lady, she was so strong and she should be proud, her response was "thanks" I loved her!

Tonya.

If you enjoyed the pilates class I'd say keep going, do what you can do and you will get stronger with time. Don't worry about waiting to lose more weight.

So don't wait...take another class.

I actually started Pilates before I started anything else (cardio, surgery you name it) and have been taking classes for the last 7 years. Why do I love it ? Because even after 7 years I still find it challenging (they keep making it harder for me) and I still find muscles I didn't think I had. i heart pilates.

The other key reason I love pilates (and yes, Yoga is great for this too) is working on your core (both back and front) conditioning. It helps you with all your other activities.

Ok..I'm obviously a pilates maniac. :)

Definitely stick with it. I have been doing yoga for about a year now and when I first started, a lot of things were very challenging and I never imagined I would be able to do them. Today, I am so much stronger and have definition in my arms, legs ans a really strong core. Remember, everyone needs to learn how to walk before they can run!

Definitely keep doing it. Just be sure to take a class where they show you how to modify things so you can do as much as you can.

I love pilates! But I went to a private instructor who had a reformer and everything, I was fortunate enough to be able to afford her very reasonable 40/session, I often would go 2-3x/week. We work on whatever I wanted to work on with a little yoga thrown in for good measure.

It was AWESOME, I've never done a traditional pilates class but i would love to try!

I say keep going, you're going to get better and better.
