Cycling - beyond goal

One of my WLS goals was to get back on my old Schwinn road bike that I abandoned in my basement when I began my climb o 500 plus pounds thirty years ago.

I reached that goal in February- five months after WLS when I reached about 250 pounds.

Never did I dream how far that goal would take me.

As of this week.. I have increased my average speed from about 6 miles per hour in February.. to 15 miles per hour now.

I also have ridden more than 1,500 miles since February. I try to ride twice a day weekdays (22 miles)
and i ride more on weekends.

Life is great thanks in great part to my WLS!

Okay, so now you need a new goal!

How about doing a century ride or a multi-day charity ride? You are certainly ready for it! I did Bike MS last year. I want to do the AIDS ride from SF to LA one of these years too.

man that is awesome, I am averaging about 15 mph up and down the hills around here in upstate NY.  I've found road biking to be a bit addicting and a great way to spend money :)  Just today I just had to have some real road bike shoes as I didn't like the mtb shoes I had been using.  Course that meant also changing my pedals to look style from spd...  Hey its all good bro, beats spending money on those happy meals!

Andrew-you totally need to go and ride a loop of the Ironman Lake Placid bike course! MTB shoes gave me problems, I switched tio LOOK and never looked back. Snort. It's a tough but doable ride...most scenic I've ever done!

Thanks for the tip, not sure I am ready for that level of cycling, but I am getting there.  Did you notice a difference between spd and look styles?

ABSOLUTELY! My first half IM was in 2007, I thought I'd DNF the bike b/c of the pain those small pedals caused! I'd rather do spin class in sneaks than SPD! I switched to look and have had minimal problems since....3 ironmans.
