I NEED TO TRAIN FOR MY NEXT HALF! DOC SAYS NO!!

It started with muscle aches and pains last Wednesday night/EARLY Thursday morning. Then the fevers spiked up to 103.  Called the doc office, followed all directions.  Finally after day 4 of fevers and being in bed (when not having to change bedding from sweat soaked sheets -ick) went to Doc. This was Sunday. Was put on antibiotics for a "fever of unknown origin". So here I am, Tuesday, still running fevers, highest 103.6, lost 5lbs, hydrating like hell.  Got a call from regular doc *****viewed all the blood work.  And guess what.  I have E Coli. Some odd strain, and needed to switch up the drugs.

Downside:
lost 5 lbs.
low sodium
nasty bruise from the 10 yr. old ma who took my blood.
ONLY TWO WEEKS TO TRAIN UNTIL MY NEXT HALF AND DOC SAYS NO WAY. NOT UNTIL POSSIBLY NEXT WEEK!!!   I have not done a run in 9 days, or even cross training since last Wed. Labor Day was supposed to be my long run. Longest run was to the bathroom.

Upside:
Well, proper diagnosis and drugs
Time to read, if I can focus
Learned I can tolerate tylenol just fine

I am so frustrated. I feel like my muscles are jello.
My legs feel weak and twitchy (but I use my foam roller to alleviate the twitchy feeling).

*sigh* Things could be worse, and I'm on the mend.  Just needed to vent/cry/cuss a bit.

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Hang in there, Kathy. I know you're disappointed, but there will be other races! Get yourself healthy first, then start training for the next one.

Kathy,
Get well then go for a run. Listen to your body! I love the way you analyzed the up and down sides of your situation. I hope you are feeling better soon!
I am not sure I am doing the half on the 26th. I do my 10 mile on Sunday. I am going to do the whole Cushman trail it is 10 miles. If I do that and feel all right I will sign up. If i do not feel ready I am going to wait for the seattle half in December.

Hang in there Kathy.  It's frustrating when something unexpected disrupts your training plans; but, you've got to place your overall health first.   If your doc gives you the go ahead to resume training that last week, don't try  to make up for lost time.  You're better off getting in a few easy miles and follow your normal taper.

I hope you feel better soon now that you're properly diagnosed and medicated.
