VSG, endurance exercise, and carbs
Good morning all,
This is my first on this board, so please forgive me if this is a repeat question.
I'm participating in the Susan G. 3-Day for the Cure in 3 weeks. At that point, I will be 6 weeks post-op VSG. I've done the event before, so I know what to expect...and I'm worried about getting in enough carbs to keep my energy up. I'm not worried about hydration, as I can pretty much drink normally at this point.
Basically, the event take place over three days with 22, 22, 16 miles on the consecutive days. There is plenty of food along the way. The problem is, I can't get IN that much food! I can eat about an ounce at a time of protein, and haven't even really ventured into carb territory yet. I can't imagine eating whole, raw fruit., granola bars, or uncrustables. I'm got a bunch of the carb gels from REI, but they take a while to get down too....and I have to tell you, they are GROSS, lol!
I've heard (haven't tried) that both potato chips and crackers go down easily and are practically "slider" foods...would these work? I'm not worried about weight loss during the walk, and I'm not afraid they would trigger bad habits, as I've never been a huge fan of either, anyway.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Joan

Try different kinds of gels... But, a good trick is to empty the contents of a gel in your mouth, leave it there, then fill your mouth with water, slo**** around so it mixes with the gel, then swallow it, way better consistency.

I would go with a sports drink instead. You have to drink anyway and that way you get in calories too.
I would combine my sports drinks with protein drinks when I was early out so they'd not be pure carbs/sugar. I would add in fruit flavors that matched the sports drink. I don't think that necessarily required but I wanted to get in all my protein so I'd heal better so that's why I did it.
