USA Track and Field study,
Shows same injury rate for static stretchers as non stretchers and actually shows a decrease in performance for those who do static stretching prior to their exercise.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

Like the article says, it's hard go get people to change so I will stick to my pre running stretching routine.  I have also read that people with IT band issues should stretch it before.

I've heard some of this before, and it's part of the reason I do what I do.  I don't stretch before, and I do a slow warm-up followed by increasing the intensity.  It always made sense to me...

Also, even though it said it doesn't hurt to do it before, that's from a statistical perspective. There are definitely individuals who get hurt if they stretch before and there are probably individuals who get hurt if they don't stretch before.
