Needing some advice please
I am 4 months post op and starting to take my exercise seriously now. I, for the most part, do alot of biking, since I am not where I would like to be physically 15 miles loops are about my max so far. I do work out in a gym 4 times a week and the endurance is starting to come but I have an interest in running. I was very fit as a teenager and still was not a runner. My question is, can I be a runner? or are some people just not cut out for it? I feel a bit like a small elephant with my feet slapping and all my weight settling on my legs when I try. Perhaps I just don't know how to run properly? Will I eventually feel comfortable running if I keep trying and don't give up? Really wondering if I should just stick to biking until I get closer to goal? But the freedom I am starting to feel shedding this weight really makes me want to run and use that as a way to stay fit. Just not sure I will be able to? Hoping to hear that some of you that run were not runners prior to getting heavy.

Razz
Razz, I was never a runner and I was always heavy. I just started running on August 18, 10. When I started I could barely run my block. I have taken 2 rest days and have ran every night since. When running last night I noticed that I ran 1.76 miles in 30 minutes. Slow I know but it is a start. I am 4 years out and not a goal. And I felt like the small elephant when I started. But now that I am doing it everyday, I don't feel like that at all. So yes you can become a runner. Good Luck.
The more you run the easier it gets. I think everyone starts out feeling like a bull in a china shop. I was never a runner b4 and that's the only reason I do it now (just to show myself I can). The most important thing is to do what you like. I always loved strength training so that my main focus now with running secondary.
No longer about weight , it's all about living.
Heck, in the 80s when I weighed only 155 lb., I tried running and sucked at it. I don't really think it's the weight. What changed for me was using the Couch to 5K program. It really does train your body to run much better than just going out and running until you feel like you want to puke. Which was what I was doing before.
