1)  What was that ONE thing that got you off your butt? A couch to 15-k training program, sponsored by our local running club.  I discovered that I enjoyed running and loved the sense of accomplishment when I crossed the finish line of my 1st 5K.  I knew that I needed to completely change my lifestyle for RNY to be a permanent fix.

2)  Where did you start? At an indoor walking track.  It was February and cold.  Now, I run year 'round outside in upstate New York.

3)  Where you are now?  Training for my first Half Ironman.

4)  And, how long did it take you to get there?  I finished my 1st marathon 14 months after surgery.  The Half Ironman will mark my 4-year anniversary.

1.  Off my butt was getting a dog.  he needed to be walked.  Then I ended a relationship and lived with my mom, so I had more time to want to be out of the house, so I spent it at the gym, walking on treadmill/elliptical.

2.  after a month at the gym, I was challenged to run a 5K.  I discovered couch to 5K.

3.  I'm training for my 2nd Half Marathon.  Maybe a Marathon in the next year.

4.  From surgery to gym - 9 months.  going to the gym to 1st Half Marathon - 10 months.  will be 23 months out for 2nd Half.

I think for many it starts out by putting one foot in front of the other.  Just start walking...try going further and further.  I didn't like running so after awhile I took up bicycle riding.  Just try walking further and further and see where it gets you.  Couch to 5K has worked for many many people on these boards.  Brian

Thank you, guys, for the motivation!!!  I will need to look into the couch to 5k thing, although I should not run due to some back and foot issues.  I rode an airdyne bike for 30 minutes today!!!  Now it's just tomorrow I need to worry about...   ugh

Best wishes!!!
