Hi everyone. I'm Vickie. Had RNY 2 months ago (tomorrow). I signed up for the gym last week and had my introduction training session this morning. As much as I would love to stick with a personal trainer a couple times a week, I just cannot afford it.

I got a quick run down of a couple things. How to get my heart rate up, using the (i forget what they are called) balls to do sit ups and crunches. Which by the way, hurt like a mofo, more than it ever had before. Hoping it was okay to do something like that 2 months out. He also showed me a few things to do with the small weights. But as far as using the other machines in the gym, I'm going to have to learn how to do on my own.

So..My question to you all who didn't have a trainer, when you first started out at the gym, how did you come up with your workout routine? Did you just do the research online to come up with something?

Thanks in advance for any info. Have a great weekend!

It is a shame that nobody has responded to a new person in this forum.  I am new myself and haven't had surgery yet.  So I just wanted to say hi and wish you the best on your journey.

 Hi Kevin

I was a little surprised at the lack of response as well. In the other sections people are usually quick to reply.

I decided to try out my own routine at the gym and see how it goes. Some of my muscles are hurting today so that's got to be a good sign.

Good luck on your journey Kevin, and feel free to message me anytime if you have questions. I can try my best to answer. I'm only 2 months out, as of yesterday, but I can try.

Kevin,

Just a little FYI about this forum...

If we don't think we have much of anything to say, we just don't.  Better to give no input than to say something wrong.

I am over 6 years post op, run and do sprint triathlons.  I never have used a personal trainer or done a 'routine' at the gym.  I found training plans online for what I wanted and went from there.  So, I don't have any experience in what was asked.

Good luck on your journey.

Linn

I didn't reply because I've always had a trainer.
