Bursitis and IT Band Syndrome

So...I gave in and went to the ortho today for my ongoing hip pain.  He agreed with my self-diagnosis of hip bursitis and IT Band issues and did a cortisone shot into my bursa.  I'm to keep up with the stretching program and he gave me his blessing to do my race in a week and a half.  I'm just hoping this injection does the trick so I can actually run.  I only made it up to 7 miles in my training and I haven't run in 3 weeks trying to rest and heal this hip.  However, this won't be my first half marathon so while it won't be pretty it should be doable.

Anybody have any tips and tricks for dealing w/ these issues?

I've not encountered bursitis, but ran my 10 mile with flaming IT Band inflammation.  stretch, stretch and do whatever exercises they told you.

I would ditch the race if it's super painful, you don't want to risk long term problems.

I also highly recommend ice/cold water baths.  :)

Find a good sports therapist who can give you a good deep tissue massage.  It will hurt like hell when he is doing it, but the results are great.  I had IT problems last year and didn't need any shots by working through it with the therapist.
