split long runs
I only did runs like that in prep for the goofy where the runs were actually split like that. For marathon training, it is pretty important to do the whole shebang at once. One of the great parts of finishing the marathon is looking back on how hard it was and how inconvienent it was and knowing that you still figured it out and did it. Wish there were an easier way but there isnt'.

I hear ya.. not looking for a free pass (its not like running 7 the morning after 13 is exactly easy, at least me me :) ) , just this darn day job, plus some volunteer work I do, keeps getting in the way of my workouts! I have a real hard time running early in the morning for some reason, even though I am an early riser. I gotta just get up at the crack of dawn and git er done. Ain't no way I am not finishing the full.
Priorities first bro. Split your workouts if that's all you can do! I get up and strap my headlamp on at 4:30 or 5am and get after it...

It seems like science is behind the idea of splitting the long run. I was just reading about that on Active.com. The author of the articles says it's better way to train, inf act.

I was reading an article recently from a triathlon coach, he actually trains his people on split runs, and has seen an increase in their performance and a decrease in injuries. I'll keep looking and see if I can find the article again.
