Ran my 2nd 5K and beat last year's time!!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted, but I've still been exercising (mostly Zumba) 3 days a wee****il my son and I joined a running group.  Now I do Zumba and run 6 days a week.  We were in the running group 2 weeks prior to the 5K I ran (women only, so he couldn't run) and so I wasn't sure if I'd even come close to last year's time since I hadn't been training for a 5K.  I was hoping all the Zumba I've been doing had helped.  I believe it did.  I was just hoping to come close to last year's time and I beat it by a minute and a half.  Coming down towards the finish line was the best reward as I could hear my kids cheering me on and through the crowd, I could hear my daughter so clearly yelling, "Go mommy!!"  People on the sidelines were yelling, "Go mom!"  Some told my kids to run with me.  They did for a few steps and decided that was enough.

I never thought I would ever run again in my lifetime, prior to this surgery.  I had lost all hope.  I will never win one of these races, but my goal is to improve my time each time.

For those of you that have/had a muffin top, did you notice if running helped it to shrink?

Take Care,

Tammy

Congratulations!  I just started the couch to 5k program on my "off" days to get into running.  You inspire me to keep on plodding!

 *waves!*

I've been working out like a fiend, but most of my friends are not doing anything and are depending on diet to lose weight.  I want to get strong and fit, so I need to start hanging out on this board to get some inspiration!

Congrats, Tammy!

As far as the muffin top goes, running really is great for the core.  I was/am large-waisted, and running has tightened my core muscles a lot. Still have a lot of loose skin, but I wear compression tanks and that helps also.

What Linn said.

There's stuff that's never going away without surgery but it's easy to hide in street clothes and mostly hide-able in exercise clothes.

Hi Linn,
Where do you get your compression tanks. I'd like to find something more compression-like than what I've been wearing.

Thanks!
