To run or not to run? What would you do? Sick today...

My marathon training schedule officially started on Monday. I've been running about 3- 5 times a week along with other things for over a year now and haven't take any breaks. Well yesterday I got sick and I'm drained. I went staight home from work and slept. I was supposed to run 4 miles, but had no energy at all. Today, I feel a little better, but my head is still "swimming" and my energy level is still poor. Should I tough it out and run anyway or should I rest and make it up another day? I trained for the half marathon last year and I never got sick. Therefore, I followed the training to a t with no issues. I feel guilty about not running or not being prepared, but my body is telling me to slow down. What would you do?

Slow down. The last thing you wait to do is drain your body even more and be out for a week. Get some rest today and pick it back up tomorrow. Taking care of YOU is #1.

Hope you feel better!

No reason to "Suffer" through a training run. Relax, get your strength back and know that a little run today won't have as dramatic of an impact on your health as not letting your body recover.

If you try to push through, the likelyhood of the sickness lingering is high. Take a little time, recover and get back at it. I give you permission to lay off for a couple of days.

Thanks everyone! I did take a couple days off. I'm not  at 100%, but I'm going to try a few miles today. Dealing with the anxiety of not being out there truly was a strange feeling. I sure didn't feel this way three years ago. I'm grateful for my health and desire to be healthy!
