Bronx Half Marathon
I ran the Bronx half today.. it was cool because, well, it was the Bronx.. but of course it was also.. the Bronx.. Anyway, it was packed, like 7 or 8 thousand people. Kind of crazy. The course was basically three loops, which I guess was ok since you get to see the leaders a few times. Personally, I feel there are any more cooler spots they could have done the race in, like down arthur ave, or around Yankee Stadium, even near city island, or somewhere with a view. This was sort of a run through the "real" Bronx.. I guess that's ok ;)
Like I said, I lot of people, I was in crowds the entire run, it never thinned out. I started off like a jackrabbit, and really started to worry a bit as my 5k time was around 26 minutes or so, and my legs, particularly my knees, were starting to ache, thought maybe I should have paced myself a little slower. There were lots of folks along the course cheering us on which was cool, even a few guys with hoses on the fire hydrants cooling folks off. There were a few hills but nothing too terrible, especially after training up in Orange county, NY.
I was able to finish in just under 2:06, with a 9:30 min/mile pace, a personal record by about 8 minutes, 41 seconds per mile faster, so I am stoked about that. Would have liked to crack 2:00, but I'll get there. Definitely need to figure out the week before these races better. This week I was on the road and didn't do anything since Monday, and I was really so tight right from the first mile. Have to find that balance for race week.
This should be my last half race before my full in October.. still not sure how I will get that full done given how tired I feel right now, but I still have a couple months I guess!

Congratulations on the new PR! That's quite an improvement over your last half. Good luck on the marathon.
