First bike ride and a little inspiration
I have no idea why I am fretting so this morning.
I organized a group of us to participate in a Corporate Cycling Challenge this Sunday. The ride is 45 miles and I know I can do it, its just this is my first organized ride. Matter of fact, I cheated and rode the course last weekend. Averaged 14.1 mph, and finished just under 3 hours. I don't think I am going to make a fool of myself, but I have never compared myself to anyone else riding.
A little background and maybe some inspiration for the newbies. (I lurk here several times per day, but rarely post). 10 months ago I weighted 460 lbs and my surgeon refused to do surgery, because I was too high of risk. I started exercising, walking on the treadmill, 15 minutes at a time. With in two weeks, I was going to the gym twice per day, 2 1/2 hours per day. In 4 months I lost 100 lbs. In March, I had RNY and since have l lost another 125 lbs. Today I do 6 hours of cardio per week and ride my bike an average of 150 miles per week. For those of you starting out, its just one foot in front of another, at your own pace. Never compare yourself to anyone else in as you are doing this for you and not for them. Before you know it, you will have the exercise bug!

Roy, I bought a Cannondale Ironman 800 used off ebay a while back and have rebuilt most of it so it's ready when I'm ready. I look forward to being able to pedal up hills cause walking in those shoes sucks.
In response your fretting, a wise man once said:

You've already ridden the course and averaged 14.1 mph? Please, brother, go have fun and remember to hydrate.
like the wind.
