Hello everyone I am one month out of surgery and I have lost 46lbs.  I am really excited and I have goals to be  a runner one day.  Next week will be my first week working out due to some dehydration issues.  I want to know where I should start and how much  I should push myself.  I am a single mom so I don't want to be so tired that I don't come back.  Any suggestions are appreciated

 Woot another DSer!

My advice would be walkwalkwalk and when you feel well enough and have the energy to start running [I know some of us are completely drained for a few months before everything seems to snap back into its "normal" way of being] there is always the couch to 5k program for starting running.  Someone on the DS board gave me a podcast to help me start it.

Good luck rocking your DS and have fun :)

When I 1st started out excercising I was able to do 3 laps which was .75 of a mile. I slowly worked my way up to 1 mile after that it started to get easier. So, now i'm doing 4 miles of walking and slowly jogging around the turns. I am three months out. Hopefully this helps, but I've found out that once you get done working out you feel great so you won't be so tired. Good Luck!!!!

I'm new too and a dser. I am on week 3 of couch to 5k program. Its great. You can join their page on fb too. They have a phone app and podcasts so you can listen to it and it tells you when to run/walk. I've enjoyed it so far, but I would start with walking until you are comfortable.

Hi Denise,

So happy for you and your weight loss journey!  I am almost five years out (had gastric bypass 12/1/05) and I want to tell you that the key to my success has been in walking 4-6 miles every day.  I started out with a block or two, which was all I could manage in the beginning of my journey.  Then I slowly built that up to a mile over a few weeks, then after about a month or so, moved it to 2 miles, et****il I reached 4 miles.  I have walked every day since the night of my operation, have reached my goal weight of 125 lbs. and have kept at that weight for 4 years.  I still have eating issues and eat more than I should, but it all works out if I do my walking.  I am amazed by the fact that just simple walking does the trick.  I can't run because I have arthritis (I'm 58 years old), so walking or swimming is the best exercise for me.  Be sure to get an iPod and load it with your favorite songs or songs that have a good beat for you to walk to and JUST DO IT!  Watch out for that dehydration thing...  It can be very dangerous, obviously, so it's important to get in those liquids.  Good luck to you!  We're all here to support you, so if you need us, use us!

Best,
